Happy Cupcakes.

Today I woke up and was just in one of those moods. The good kind of mood, one where you're happy that there's a nice springtime rain pattering on the windows, and the birds are all making it known that they are alive. That kind of mood led to copious amounts of baking, and the happiest of all was making bright pink cupcakes with pale yellow icing. Adding pureed strawberries to my old standby yellow cake recipe made the cupcakes a little more exciting. They are the perfect cupcakes to give my friend Ashley for her birthday, the color combination is the same as the cake we made for her 16th birthday, now she's 21. Happy Birthday Ash! Happy spring everyone else!

The Summer.

I think it's safe to say that we're all ready for the summer. Summer, where are you? Tait and I brainstormed about what we will be drinking. This is what we came up.

Watch Lust, Pt. II.

I forever and always have watch lust. I love watches, and just haven't found the perfect one yet. Well, perhaps i've found some perfect ones, but they're a few thousand dollars over budget. Here's yet another wonderful watch from A. Lange & Sohne. They've stayed classic through the years.

Living the High Life.

I was thinking a lot about beer recently. Why you might ask... Well, beer is around my life constantly. CONSTANTLY. I think it might be due to the fact that i have a ton of guy friends who seem to be chugging beer all the time. Welcome to the college life. This said, there's a large variety of beer cans and bottles lying around my house in a variety of places, which got me to thinking about which ones were the most attractive. Because, evidently, that's what a girl who thinks a lot about pretty things and aesthetics ponders when she sees all of those dead soldiers in the kitchen, and hallways, and bedrooms... and bathtub. I decided Miller High Life was definitely the winner. It's a really classy bottle! I don't understand why it's so classy for such a cheap beer, but for me, it beats out even the most expensive bottles of beer. So, go out and buy some high life. Admire its beauty. If you need some variety in the pretty beer bottle department, Sol and Red Stripe work too.

Cloak + Dagger.

Cloak and Dagger's new line is about to be debuted at St. Louis Fashion Week (I didn't even know St. Louis had a fashion week). The line looks as though it was designed with a modern day Great Gatsby-esque lifestyle in mind. I wish it would all magically transport itself to my closet... and then my life would magically transform into something where i could dress like that 24/7. I guess a girl can only hope.

Sandwiches + Scanners.

Okay seriously, whoever came up with this idea is a genius. Scanning sandwiches, what could be a better way to document my favorite food? The scans becomes works of art, kind of like how making the perfect sandwich is a work of art in and of itself.

Look Stylish While Getting Shot.

If you're a spy, or a thug, or a high profile executive, or just an every day person who is afraid of getting shot, you should purchase this. You'll have to get the placement just right or else it won't be very effective. I wish you the best of luck.

Muffins & Springtime.

Sometimes i get caught up in the world of blogs in the sense that i read tons of other peoples' and forget to post in my own. I'm not exactly sure where the first half of the semester has gone (actually, that's not completely true, most of it has been spent on trains, and in cars, and in dentist's offices), but now i'm ready for spring. Right now maxine and i are patiently waiting for the streusel topped apple coffee cake muffins that we made, modified from this recipe. I think this spring will be a good one. It has to be, because it will be our last one at this school. My goal for the spring time is to appreciate all the little things about this school that i will never be able to take advantage of after this year: sitting in the sunshine on the teahaus wall, spending days watching passersby from the picnic bench in front of DL, picnics with gin and tonics on the lawn, roving parties with the party box. I cannot wait. When will you be here spring? I don't want any more of these rainy 40 degree days.

Such Is Life.

If someone would have told me all of the things that were going to happen to me in the past two weeks I probably would have looked them dead in the eyes and laughed. From falling flat on my face unexpectedly and knocking my teeth out, to all the dental surgery that's ensued, to being on trains for seven hours to get to an interview with the director of the Courtauld in DC, to getting into said masters program in London, it's been a lot. A New York, Pennsylvania and DC whirlwind. But, even with all of that, tomorrow is still Valentines Day-- that cheesy holiday that you either love to love or love to hate. I take the first path, enjoying all the sentimentality and splashes of the color pink and the sweets. The sweets! As if i needed any kind of excuse to make cupcakes, this holiday is my favorite for baking. So, with all that said... here's what i've come up with this year. Happy Valentines Day everyone!

The Pressing of Letters.

As of late i have discovered (along with the help of my good friend Sami) the joys of letterpressing. As some of you might already know, i have an immense love of all things paper. To-do lists, stationary, books, really the list goes on and on. So, when i discovered that our school had a letterpress and pretty unlimited supplies i was pretty overjoyed. The outcome has exceeded expectations and i hope that it will only get better.
