Okay, okay, okay.

So, i've realized that something happens when you have a job... especially a job that you're at most days from 8:45 am until 7 pm and don't have a computer... and that's that all you can manage when you get home is eat and sleep. The basics. The last few weeks have been eating, sleeping and breathing Violet Cakes and it feels really nice to be busy again. Right now is a nervewracking in between time, visa applications, job hunts, house hunts, and the waiting game because nothing, nothing at all, can be done before the UK says i'm allowed to stay here for longer. Adventures will happen soon, adventures with pictures, and until then... i will leave you with this.

Home sweet home, week 1.

Week one of being back stateside has been one of those weeks that's go go go go go. In this span of a week i've had to divide my time between being a tour guide and relaxing in a major way. List form is what i think best illustrates what we've done. Bocce, lobster rolls and hoagies in Princeton with Tait. Butchers, farm stands and fresh vegetables from the garden. Booze and barbecues. First times for s'mores and american bagels. Phillies vs. Mets. A boathouse bar. Backyard football, brunches and weddings.

Supper Club.

A few nights ago there was a supper club at Violet Cakes. I had never been to one and wasn't quite sure what to expect, but was excited because everything about the shop is always so on point. This was no different. The place was transformed, the company was lively and the food was incredible. James Lowe of St. John Bread and Wine fame was the guest chef and served up seven courses that consisted of things like foraged wild pea and runner bean salad and a rib of beef that had been slow cooked for 3 hours. I was completely blown away, and to top it off, there was a wonderful band that played as we drank elderflower champagne and ate dessert. This was a night well spent in the company of the friendliest of strangers.

New Job!

(photos by this is naive)

Exciting news! After a bit of a break after doing that little thing called a master's course, i'm back in the work force. This time it's in London, and as ever, i've been hired to help do tedious organization, except in a cupcake shop! And not just any cupcake shop. It's the cutest cupcake shop in town, and run by the loveliest owner. Yay! Cupcakes for everyone!

So Many Things.

Well, suffice it to say the last two weeks have been crazy, and that's the excuse i'll give for a blogging hiatus. When you have family visiting, a graduation from a master's program and a trip to france and spain, somehow these sorts of things happen. Craziness aside, we're back! Here i am! Sunkissed and ready for ... life? This blog has chronicled every aspect of life and now we're in the first phase ever where i'm not sure what comes next. In the next months it'll be finding a job, hopefully getting a new visa and moving apartments. Not too shabby. For now, deep breaths.

France and Spain, the lands of roundabouts.

Yesterday i got back from a trip to the catalan regions of France and Spain. We had to fly into a small airport that looked like it hadn't been touched since the 70s, then drive along scary coastal roads without barriers to a hotel in the middle of Argeles and Collioure, two towns that couldn't be any more different from each other. One was a beachside town that had more tourist traps and kebab shops than i've ever seen crammed into one place, think the jersey shore on crack... and filled with french people. The other, Collioure, has been standing since the 600s when King Wamba of the Visigoths lived there. It's filled with windy streets and ice cream on every corner. Much more my speed. Every day was filled with sunshine and delicious food, and now after that, i'm refreshed and back to reality.

At times.

Sometimes your days look like one thing, and the next day they're much the opposite.
