This is what the night looks like.

This is what the night looks like when i wake up sleepily, emerging from my room and into the kitchen. Through a big window there are these buildings that get bathed in different kinds of light depending on the day. Crisp, blue-sky light in the morning, golden light in the afternoon, and orange light cast from streetlamps once the sun has set. This is what i see at night and it always somehow looks like a dream.

London Firsts.

So far in london i've had some big firsts. They might look small to you, but i think they're a pretty big deal. Most of them are culinary. See for yourself.

+ ate a crumpet.

+ tried fish and chips.

+ tried marmite both on toast and in twiglet form, and liked it.

+ took a bus, in a city, by myself.

+ learned how to poach an egg.

+ ate a soft boiled egg out of an eggcup.

+ witnessed a tea cozy being used, without it being a kitschy joke.

+ made a key lime pie.

+ was in charge of thanksgiving.

+ read a lot of nineteenth century french texts.

+ saw not one, but two, english soccer games.

First assessed essay has been handed in. Now it's just a whole lot of finger crossing. Two copies printed, strict guidelines followed.

Mmm, yes, it's the little details that make me miss the united states. Like big huge cans of PBR. I don't even love PBR. But still. Compare and contrast of what two people across an ocean drink simultaneously.

Today has been just right. Lazy morning and tea, followed by an outing to Hampstead Heath. I'd never been there before, and it seems as though in going i found out where all of the yellow leaves were hiding in London. They're certainly here in a huge abundance, along with dogs and birds. There's not too much that makes me feel happier than knowing i'm in a city but not being able to hear cars, or trains, or anything. Knowing that you're just within a boundary of quiet. As if that couldn't be topped, a beautiful used bookstore was found down a cobblestone lane. Perfection.
