At times.

Sometimes your days look like one thing, and the next day they're much the opposite.

Summer Adventures in England.

A few weeks ago i realized that this was my first summer that i could actually have a summer since i was around 12. In the recent past i've been working full time, and before that the life of a competitive figure skater took precedent over enjoying the sunshine. So, with that realization i set out to have a real summer. This past week the first of my summer adventures began with a four day trip to Lundy, an island just over three miles long and one mile wide off the coast of Devon. Here there are no cars, no electricity after midnight, and an abundance of all things wild - horses, lambs, puffins, seals, goats and deer. We stayed in a lighthouse, something that was far too idyllic to actually feel real, and spent our days wandering around cliff edges and grassy fields, playing boules, drinking wine and making huge feasts. There was something wonderful about being on such a small island with 20 friends. You'd come upon little groups of people you knew all over the place as you walked around. As the minutes came near to midnight everyone with flashlights in hand would prepare themselves for all the power on the island to cut out, and you'd wander through the moonlit fields past the horses back to the lighthouse where candles were lit and within minutes you'd pass out. What a wonderful way to start off summer.

Dissertation Complete.

Somehow usually when you see a paper you've poured months into lying all spread out, it never seems as substantial as you want it to. This time, 50 pages later, and enjoyable months of research laughing over 19th century food stuffs, this dissertation feels thick enough. And knowing that it will always have a spot, bound, and on the shelves at the Courtauld Library, feels really really good. Once this gets handed in today it's officially summer... and then real life.
